Montenegro on the threshold

Monday, 06 March, 2006: Srdjan Darmanovic
Srdjan Darmanovic is director of the Centre for Democracy and Human Rights in Podgorica, where he also teaches comparative politics at the university. He was also leader of the Social Democratic Party until he retired from party politics in order to concentrate on academic work. Following the extraordinary decision of the European Commission to override the recommendations of its own Venice Commission and impose unequal (and unprecedented) rules as a precondition for recognizing the validity of the referendum on Montenegro's status on 21 May 2006, Dr Darmanovic gave an exceptionally balanced and authoritative introduction to a discussion of 'Montenegro at the crossroads' at our March forum.
